need some help on engine stall after cold start

seeking help with a car that engine dies right after cold start. but only after the car has been sitting for a few hours. after it dies, it can be started again without dying but has a very high(rpm) idle; but then progressively settles to normal(rpm) as time passes.

Fuel leaking into cylinder while vehicle is parked? Spark plugs wet with fuel?

thanks for the response. spark plugs are indeed wet. but it seems to be with engine oil. and that would explain the horrid smell after a cold start

you oil may be coming from valve covers leaking
