My housemate’s car has a mystery – he just came back from holiday, and for the past 1000kms, he’s been having this rattly noise coming from in/around the engine.
It goes away at high RPM ranges, as you can see in the video. The car is a 2012 Renault Clio IV, with a 0.9 liter turbocharged petrol engine.
I looked around the engine bay for a few minutes, and felt for movement in everything attached to the engine block, but couldn’t find anything.
I’m thinking either:
* something internal, like a bearing, but it doesn’t sound muffled so maybe it’s outside?
* a heat shield next to the exhaust manifold, but I’ve put my hand on them and that didn’t change the noise
This week we’re going to do an oil change and I’m quite interested in how the oil looks, like if there’s metal in it. What do you guys/gals think?
