Coolant has burped out of the system boiled out twice now….was getting a mis fire code and the you tube videos are going to cover the fuel/ mis fire issue I am sure I am still in diagnostic stage and have the test on order from amazon to check for leaking head gasket…
The coolant stays in the system if I just fill radiator and burp… but when full and if I add to the overflow reservior it all boils out… as of recent..heater works as it should hoses have been replaced…in past
two weeks ago The lower hose wore out that was the first time the system boiled out…and I replaced that hose along with thermostat… system ran good for a couple of weeks but was also getting mis fire code as well during this time and before hose replacement.have replaced radiator caps twice…as far as I know it is original radiator and looks pretty clogged up So rather than flush a 170k radiator I got a new one for cheap… so will be installing that too.instead of a flush..just wondering if any here had come across similar problems and it turned out to be leaking head gasket for them.. but no mocha latte in oil and no oil apparent in coolant. water pump seems to be working fine.
new plugs installed in June 2018 new cap and rotor then too and it passed I?M but then began to get running rough and throwing the cylinder misfire code again a few weeks ago.
I know this is kind of two different problems/issues. I have heard that there is an inherent glitch with the 4.3 with high milage in the plenum seals… and water can drip into the combustion chamber and boil outover time eventually which would explain why after a few weeks we have to keep the radiator topped off. but it never gets into the crank case… oil looks as it should.
October 20, 2018 at 6:02 am #13906just watched the mystery coolant loss for the bravada part 1 and 2 and I think this is exactly what is happening I will do the tests and verify and keep you posted.
would that also make for a misfire condition in one of the cylinders nearest the leak? That is looking like that is exactly what is happening on my 1996 blazer 4.3. seem to make sense if coolant were leaking down into chamber significantly.. .then that begs the question also under compression then would there also be excessive water coming out of the tailpipe? if the leak were significant enough? and then the vehicle computer would be running more fuel as well making a rich mixture, using more fuel? There is a significant rich smell coming out of pipe and what I would deem as excessive water
and now come to think of it the catalytic is rattling as of a few weeks ago… that would seem to point that if in fact more water (moisture) is traveling out the tailpipe then that would MEGA accelerate deterioration of internal metal corrosion on exhaust/tailpipe components?
Thanks $3 well spent…October 20, 2018 at 6:10 am #13908no white smoke only rich smoke on startup… black smoke….but cant really say smoke…not billowing out…only like when under a fuel flood condition of that type of light smoke. and have to crank for a good 5 to 10 seconds for initial cold fire up. gotta check fuel pressure as I think I might have a spider problem as well.
